Role:
During my term of Americorps with the City of Coquille I worked with the Friends of the Coquille River for the 2015-2016 grant cycle. I wrote grants to fund bioswales for the Georgia Pacific site, a series of interpretive signs along the river and Phase II of the River Walk. I successfully helped raise $65,000 in grant monies for the project. In addition I created posters and branding for the park to promote support and engagement. I researched and designed the interpretive signs for the existing River Walk successfully funded by a grant award. I formed partnerships with local organizations including the Coquille Tribe and the Department of Fish and Wildlife to develop content
for the signage.

About the Project:
The Friends of the Coquille River Walk are a local group of citizens dedicated to helping beautify the Coquille River. The River Walk is an attractive venue for physical exercise as well as peaceful reflection. For bicyclists, joggers, dog walkers, bird watchers and casual walkers, this trail beckons those eager for a safe place to exercise and a peaceful place
to commune with nature.
The Friends of the Coquille River Walk are working to extend the trail around the perimeter of the former Georgia Pacific site and encourage the development of a scenic path along the Coquille River to Johnson Mill Pond. We seek to promote awareness and education about the habitat and the historical significance of the Coquille River and its importance to the community by providing a trail and offering recreational opportunities for those who fish, bicycle, jog, birdwatch or hike.
